About the Author

Sri M. Gopalakrishna Naidu, born January 12, 1939, is a retired 1962 IAS officer, management guru, and mentor for civil service aspirants. With degrees in Science (B.Sc) and Law (LLB), he scored 100% in the Law Paper for IAS Probationers. He did Advanced Management Programme at Banff School of Management, Canada.

Gopalakrishna is a well-known administrator, consultant and speaker on topics from Vedas and Technology to Public Administration. His book on District Administration and lectures on Management, Ethics and Values, Management Sutras and Management Tantras have been published. His books reflect on his six-decade career in the Civil service and post-retirement life.
In Assam, he was Deputy Commissioner of Mizo Hills and Sibsagar Districts, Commissioner of the Home Department, Secretary of the Industries and Health departments. In Andhra Pradesh he served as Special Chief Secretary for Industrial Promotion, Secretary, Major Industries and Commissioner of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. As the Founder Managing Director of Godavari Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (GFCL), he commissioned the project ahead of schedule and within budget. It is a case study in Project Management. In the Central Government, he was Chairman of the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and SCOPE, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Steel and Mines, and Regional Iron and Steel Controller. He chaired several Government committees and was Vice President of the International Lead Zinc Study Group for the UN.

Gopalakrishna was consultant for UNDP, ADB, KFW and DFID. After retirement, he was Director at the Institute of Public Enterprise and Chairman of AP State Financial Corporation, which was turned profitable. He served as a director or Independent Director in several companies and is a guest faculty at various Institutes.

His home displays around 400 awards, including the Dean Paul H. Appleby Award, Manager of the Year, and Life-time Achievement Award from Hyderabad Management Association and the Life Time Achievement Award from NHRDN. His personal library features books on Philosophy, Religion and Management and a copy of the calligraphed Indian Constitution.
